Rosetta West, a blues rock band from Illinois, includes Joseph Demagore (singer, guitar, keyboards), Jason X (bass, keyboards, producer), and Nathan Q. Scratch (drums). They’re known for adding psychedelia and world folk music to their blues rock, and their songs often explore mystical and spiritual themes. This new EP shows two different sides of their sound.
The EP starts with “Oh Mary.” This song puts you in a misty, wide-open space. The sounds drift and echo, making it feel atmospheric and thoughtful. The way the song is put together makes you feel the emotion even more. The singing is gentle but full of feeling, maybe a bit sad or like someone is thinking hard. The voice fits in with the other sounds, making it feel very personal.
Oh Mary
“Oh Mary” feels like someone is reaching out, maybe not to a real person, but to a feeling or memory. Saying “Oh Mary” over and over is like a thought that keeps coming back, a name that’s important, or a way to look deeper inside. Even without knowing all the words, you can feel a sense of searching or a strong connection (or the lack of one). The song paints a picture of someone’s inner world, where “Mary” is very important. It reminds us that we all have people or ideas we think about a lot, especially when we’re quiet.
“Snake 25” feels like two different things mixed together.First, it’s a bit dark. Then, BAM! Loud and strong, like rock music. You hear guitars and drums a lot. Sounds a little old, but also new and cool. It makes you want to dance, and the main sounds stay in your head.
Snake 25
“Snake 25” is about folks getting together when life gets hard. The words mix how you feel inside with big, old thoughts, like finding where you fit when things are tough.Even though the song feels deep, it also makes you think things can get better and you can be strong. It says helping each other is what’s really important. The word “snake” in the title makes you wonder. Maybe it means something sneaky, or a change, or something new happening. It talks about how we all need to belong, to love and be loved, and how being close to others makes us stronger, in our own lives and out in the world. The song says that working together helps us get through problems.
With this two-song EP, Rosetta West shows their range – from thoughtful and dreamy to powerful and unifying. It’s a short but interesting look at their musical talent.
